Famous Station Wagons


This section should probably be renamed, "famous films which featured station wagons," but that title is just too long winded! There have been literally hundreds of films and television series in which station wagons have played a significant role. Below are just a few station wagon stars according to the infamous internet movie car database.



National Lampoons Vacation 1983: A 1979 Ford LTD Country Squire was the 'Wagon Queen Family Truckster' in 1983 movie "National Lampoons Vacation." The car was especially modified for the movie and was based on a heavily modified Ford LTD Country Squire Station Wagon. Some serious fans of the film taken the trouble to create their own versions of the Truckster and many can be seen at conventions and events. One version of the car which was used in the film is currently on display at the Historic Auto Attractions museum in Roscoe, Illinois.



Dark Angel 1990: A 1989 Buick Century Wagon appeared in this movie. Staring Dolf Lundgren of Rocky fame, the film centers around Lundgren as a police officer trying to stop drugs criminals who happen to be linked to aliens! The wagon features heavily in the film as he drives around in it.

Quantum Leap 1989-1993: A 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Nomad appears numerous times as a part of various storylines in the popular TV sci fi series, Quantum Leap. The main character uses it frequently as he jumps between time zones trying to save the day and get back home.


MacGuyver 1985-1992: A 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Nomad was used in the sixth season- in an episode called "Harry's Will" and was driven by MacGuyver himself.

Flipped 2010: A 1957 Nomad was used as the main family car in this romantic drama starring Rebecca De Mornay and Anthony Edwards.

Starsky and Hutch 1970's TV series: Starsky and Hutch, the popular TV detectives of the 70s, chased a 1955 orange Nomad in a scene. One of the characters referred to it as a Nomad.

Spongebob Squarepants: This is a popular childrens cartoon and three movies have been made about it. In all three animation films, the Squarepants family own a station wagon. The car is referred to as the "Squarepants Family Truckster," presumably in homage to the Wagon Queen Family Truckster in the National Lampoons Vacation.
